About Sharon

Welcome to David Meade Walker!

As his sister, and probably his biggest fan, I gathered up all his art from his apartment and began a long labor of love to share it with as many people as possible. Please read his bio for a good look into what a wonderful and remarkably talented man he was.

David lived and died (9/12/12) in San Francisco, of AIDS-related lymphoma, believing he was first infected early on in the epidemic, around 1981.

My every visit took into account how David was feeling, what he was up to doing or not, and what he was creating artistically. His output got more focused, more distilled, less prolific. And in the end when he was finished creating art he turned to gardening his Haight-Ashbury back yard, and even to bonsai. Which said a lot about him, knowing his years would be mightily shortened and yet lovingly cultivating something that can last hundreds of years. Here you’ll see work inspired by our rural upbringing in Lancaster County, PA, lots of youthful and student works, a variety of styles and media, and I smile that nearly all his figure drawings and portraits were male. And a few mother figures too! David’s most active period was through the 1970s and 80s.

Something else David did was to keep extensive and thoroughly detailed medical records. It’s a fascinating, heartbreaking look at all he went through. I have donated those to the wonderful William Way LGBT Center’s archives.

So as his sister, who just adored him, and we were very close, this is my way of keeping his memory alive. In my own teeeeny way, I feel like Theo van Gogh! The more I can get his work out there, the more it can be enjoyed, and hopefully some of it will find a home with loving collectors or galleries.

I hope you enjoy looking through this site. I look forward to hearing from you.
